Men’s Group

Activities_-_Social_-_Mens_Group_-_Photo

This group meets on the third Tuesday of every month from September to July.  We have a regular attendance of around 15 members and often exceed 20 for some activities.  We endeavour to provide a variety of events that will involve our range of ages and interests.  These include a variety of presentations by speakers, as well as petanque in June, a BBQ in July and a New Year's dinner in January.  We always try to organise one outside visit such as the Hog's Back Brewery in Tongham and the TAG Farnborough airport.

If these activities have whetted your appetite or you simply fancy good company, you are very welcome to join us.

Monday Lunch Club

The Club meets every Monday at 12noon, when people gather on the ground floor for a chat before going to the hall upstairs for a two course lunch.  A good time of friendship and fellowship is had by all ages.  The cost is £3.50 and there is no need to book in advance.

Patchers

This group meets every Monday evening on the ground floor from 7.30pm, except for bank holidays and the occasional 'night out'.  Anyone bringing a craft is welcome; individual projects have included cross-stitch and tapestry pictures, patchwork quilts, knitting, even mending.  If you want to try a new craft but don't know how to go about it there will surely be one of us who can put you on the right path.  We have even given a Turkish au pair an evening's instant tuition in patchwork.  Teamwork in the past has produced quilts for national exhibition, a group of kneelers for the Naomi House children's hospice and a quilt for the Phyllis Tuckwell hospice, as well as felt stockings for the High Cross Christmas offerings.

Patchers is fun, productive friendship and you'll meet people from inside and outside High Cross. There is no pressure to come every week, in fact it is a great joy to welcome old friends as well as delight in getting to know new folk.  If you don't feel like 'working', then just come and chat.  Follow the noise of laughter to the group who meet where there is no closed door.

Ramblers

Activities_-_Social_-_Ramblers_-_Photo

The monthly rambles have been happening for 21 years.  In each year some 50 people take part, with an average turnout of about 13.  The rambles are typically of 5½ miles and range far and wide on Sunday afternoons.

The ambles are similarly attended, but started only 7 years ago and occur quarterly.  The ambles are taken at a slower pace over easier terrain, cover about 3 miles and are more local on Thursday mornings.

Both have much in common.  There is always a break for refreshments.  They exercise the mind as well as the body and provide a stimulus for conversation and fellowship in all weathers.

Thurst

This is a group for men, which meets for lively discussion on the first Thursday of each month at a pub in Camberley.

Banner Group

Activities_-_Social_-_Banner_Group_-_Photo

This is a small group of people who meet a few at a time when there is a banner to be made.  The harvest banner was the first to be made and the design was a joint effort, but the others have been based on ideas from individual members.

Wednesday Club

The Wednesday Club started at least 30 years ago in the Camberley Methodist Church, originally meetings on a Wednesday evening.  On moving to High Cross, many of the Church meetings were also held on Wednesdays, so we kept the name but now meet on the first THURSDAY of each month.

We are an informal group - mostly ladies of all ages, but the men join us for some events.  We usually meet in members' homes and most of our evenings involve food of some sort; barbecues, salad supper, take-a-way meals.....  Once a year we hold a fund raising event for our chosen charity.

About half our regular attendees are High Cross members and we all enjoy our evenings of food, laughter and fellowship.
